Are Disposable Vapes Safe?

Disposable vapes are single-use, all-in-one devices which, as the name suggests, are basically landfill once they run out of their built-in liquid.

Over the last couple of years there has been a huge rise in the amount of disposable vapes hitting the Australian market. These single use vapes are strictly illegal in Australia which is why they are often kept ‘under the counter’ wherever they are purchased.

The appeal of these devices is obviously the convenience of being able to grab a vape that’s ready to go with nicotine but, apart from the obvious environmental factor of a single use electronics, there are a few factors that many consumers may not be aware of.

First of all, many of these disposables are way too strong, often containing 50-60mg of nicotine per ml of liquid. For most people this is way too much nicotine and may result in increased nicotine dependence. This is most likely a deliberate choice on the part of the manufacturers to ensure consumers get hooked to these illegal vapes.

Secondly, disposables are built as cheaply as possible. This leads to the use of questionable ingredients and unsafe designs. Being a black market product, there is very little recourse for consumers to address any quality or safety issues they may encounter.

The good news is that it’s easy to vape, with nicotine, legally and safely. Check out our blog post “Vaping and Nicotine Laws in Australia” as well as our FAQ and Nicotine Prescription info pages for more information about more sustainable, legal vaping solutions.
